Weird feeling coming away from the game tonight. We lost, were on the back foot for a lot of the game, getting pummeled when we had the ball and made umpteen errors, yet we could've won the game and I was pretty happy. We hung in there and I don't think KR will feel great about themselves after that.
If we can get Nsemba, French and Thompson back in and finally find some momentum, that sort of KR performance won't beat us if there is a next time. The league feels more wide open than ever tonight. I think all of Leeds, Saints and Leigh would think they could mix it at that level.
Looking forward to the next few weeks.
With all due respect Wigan barely strung an attack together all game and apart from the hit and hoof that led to the try they never looked like scoring.
KR came with a plan and played well within themselves to beat Wigan they had plenty of players missing too let’s be fair about it French maybe back Nsemba should be back but what if Thompson? How long before he’s back we are in the run in now and if this form carries on they’ll be lucky to hold on to second place it’s far to easy to say get those players back and the pixie dust will sprinkle and all will be well it may be the issues perhaps runs little deeper?
KR did not play within themselves, they were knackered at the end of the game, and that's where our try came from. For a side that was so dominant and had so much ball they should have been home and dry by half time, but Wigan stuck in there despite not keeping hold of the ball and being able to build any form of pressure, let alone sustained pressure on KR
I'm with NK on this, and although it was a defeat i'm still confident that we can turn it round and go on and win the GF this season, if we can get our players back and fit, as there is no doubt we've missed French and Thompson, but equally Miski, Walters, and Marshy / Wardle and Keighran all appear to have been or are carrying their legs. I know most players will play with knocks at this time of the year, but the strange thing is we dont see to have tried to rotate to keep players fresh / chance to recover unless they have been out injured. Examples of what i mean, Marshy v Leigh was never fit in memory of man, when he intercepted he should be under the sticks, but was easily run down, same game Miski brought back , and not played again til this weekend. Wardle seems to labouring and carrying a knock, Keighran been strapped up and not kicking. We have had chances where Eckersley / Douglas could have played to give one of them a rest, but it hasnt been taken. Junior failing his HIA, was a bit of a blessing as it was a rest for him (forced) as it was unlikely he would been given any time off to recover / refresh himself
