Ferguson would be a loss and is easily our most effective second row with ball in hand. I'd be disappointed to see him leave but I expect he'll be a high earner. Perhaps might make room on the cap to add in other areas. I'd be surprised if Wakefield had cash to sign him under contract unless he has done sort of SL club release clause in his deal.

Think this report by Derek Beaumont is well thought out and constructive, showing a lot of empathy towards Kurt Haggerty, It's good at least to discuss RL with Alan and share his view point on the game. The game as a whole is in danger of losing many good players, if we are not careful, through no fault of individual clubs.

To be fair, we're not short on decent second rows; Ferguson, Alex Mellor, jay Pitts, Tom Olby, Danny Addy and isn't Lucas Walshaw still here? Plus we have the part time SRs like Matty Blythe and Purts who can fill in, and that's before Haggerty came.



Assuming no-one leaves, then Ferguson, Mellor, Pitts and Olby would be fighting for the starting spots for me, though Pitts and Olby plus Danny Addy may well be competing for the no.13 berth too. All in all, as things stand, the squad certainly isn't looking any smaller, which is what Steve Ferres said it would be. #mildlypuzzled

Derek has been very supportive of the Haggerty family, Gareth Haggerty's young child was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and Derek gave £100 to them for every try Ryan Brierley scored.



I think that says a lot about a person irrespective of what your perceptions are as fans of a rival club.

The only obvious thing here is, If a club were reportedly after one of your better players who is still under contract, who in their right mind would not want a fee for him, irrespective of your financial position.

His actions with regard to the Haggerty family are commendable and heartening, so thanks for sharing the other side to crazy uncle Derek. My point of course was that in various forms, be that an article in MEN or an audible rant at LSV, few of us have ever seen anything remotely well thought out or constructive from him.

That was the gist of my question. One of my favourite RL moments was a televised cup match in the 80s. Not long after the 82 Aussies had revolutionised the game with long kicks early in the sets. Saints copied this, hoying the ball down the field with Roy about 50m in front of the kicker but 2m from the catcher. Roy obviously saw the chance to pole axe the catcher. Someone shouted to Roy he was offside, for a split second he stopped, then thought better of it & decked the catcher. Penalty. The look of disbelief & confusion on Roy's face when he got up was classic.

On the issue of our 'Owner', he is exceedingly passionate about his club, and RL in general. So, unlike the Salford owner, who is a comparative newcomer to RL, he does come from a strong background of Rugby League, and the Leigh club. However, that hasn't stopped him from doing/saying things that are cringeworthy to Leythers, as well as to fans of other clubs!
