| I understand picking Walker at 6. He will defend against Sironen and Percival which is the stronger edge for Saints, so can expect a lot of traffic. If Irwin is picked, he would have a tough job and either side of him in Tai and either Holroyd/Russell have not had any real consistency playing together, so Walkers communication would be a benefit.
Either way, that right side is highly unlikely to win you the game tonight. But it could lose it.
While I understand the frustration of the ?next man up? mantra not being adopted, there has to be a realistic view that a lot of players have missed games so far. Everyone but Walker, Powell, Currie, Vaughan and Philbin (I think) have missed games, and it?s only round 9. Conversely, other than numbers 7, 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, 30, 32 every other squad number has had game time. With 7 and 20 still on long term injury, 30 out on season long loan and I think each of the rest of them are or have played out at London, Bradford or Widnes (might be wrong with Tupaea). Note, Irwin not included, I must admit I hadn?t seen much of him before last week. But, the squad is being used and exposed to playing in competitive matches, but also being rested and rotated for the longevity of the season.
Last season we conquered the middle section of the season (aside from Wembley), and came away with nothing. I?m not saying that were intentionally underperforming, but I do wonder whether there is an intention to manage players better and arrive at the back end better prepared to challenge, rather than have Dufty and Williams coming off playing 25+ games at 100mph and just not having it in the tank when it actually counts. But, non of that is worth anything outside of the 6, we have to keep pace with that second batch, Hull, Saints, Leigh & Leeds.

| BarbedWire2:
Say we finish sixth, if i told you in February that we had to go to Hull away to set up a semi with Wigan or Hull KR I think we would have taken that
I take your point but, in truth, in February I was full of hope and expecting that we would build on 2024 and for us to be pushing for a top 2 spot. As you said we missed out narrowly in 2024 (win the Wigan home game we sacrificed and we would have won the LLS), so I was expecting progress on that or at least to hold steady.

| I already said midweek that SBs attitude about walker was a worry, doubling down saying he'll get better in the halves. Guess we will see tonight. Cus I know the lad has a mean 40/20 but that doesn't make him an out and out scrum half or stand off. Time will tell. Also if Powell goes off for a HIA everything goes teets up doesn't it?
