A premiership football team gets to throw a whole load of community teams out of their own facility (hyperbole, I know)?



In some areas of the country we managed to get back to decent facilities for normal people prior to five years ago, I grew up in an era when the team I played for didn't have a pitch, (because it had been sold) despite being Yorkshire cup winners, National nines winners, National Champions and some sort of Union sevens winners against a load of rah rah's.



Actions like this makes me wonder why any of us are confused at the inability for Hull to produce sporting talent, it's their, it always has been, but by the time our kids get past the local stages they're four years behind the rest of the country.



It's a damn shame.

That guy will be the worst thing that ever happens to this city. In years to come David Lloyd will be viewed as a saint in comparison.

Just the whole 'Tigers' crap drives me insane and I'm not even a City fan. Everywhere you look in Hull at the moment its 'Tigers this' 'Tigers that' rather than 'Hull City'. Even the official Facebook page is now called "Hull Tigers' - what part of You cannot change the name doesn't he get?! Using a false name on social media to represent a sports team must be breaking some kind of law surely.

I also hope his million pound 'gift' doesn't come back to haunt Rovers.

First up, just a reminder for everybody to try to use moderate language and tone in their posts. Outrage begets outrage and we get a heated discussion rather than an enlightening one.



On the issue at hand, a commercial entity will pursue what it regards as being it's best commercial interests. A true community facility, whether it is a hospital, a school or a sports facility needs community control as well as ownership. Especially with the last - but itbrings political risks as well as benefits. When core services are under threat, shelling out for the new pitch at the KC mightn't have been universally popular, for example. And a council run SMC, with detailed accounts presumably available under freedom of information legislation, that ran at a loss would put pressure on Hull City and Hull FC. The unlikely arrival of an independent white knight to run the SMC apart, there's no obvious palatable solution.

Did anyone do that?
